Is there a software to take scanned tables and convert it into an Excel file?

I have a catalogue with several tables on its pages and I would like an electronic version of these so I can resort them. Is there any software that converts scanned images to Excel files, or possibly even Word tables?

  1. You would need an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software program to convert your scanned images into text. Do a web search for "OCR Software Excel" and you will find several options. I haven't t use OCR software so I can't give you a specific recommendation on what is best. Here is one that looks good but again I haven't tried it. You can try it for free. ABBYY ScanTo Office http://www.abbyy.com/scanto_office/
  2. The expensive answer is OmniPage, but it is a very good OCR program. They are up to version 17 so you may be able to find a lower version for less on eBay.
  3. if it is a common catelogue you can download it from internet but using a simple trick open google.com and in search box type the title of the book followed by "filetype:pdf" or "filetype:doc" or "filetype:xls" excluding Quotes. from the links you can find the soft copy of that catelogue. PDF to Excel Converter software you can convert the PDF Files into word or excel. Scan the catelogue in high resolution and convert it into either JPEG format or PDF format. using ABBYY's Fine reader you can convert above formats into text and you can later convert them into excel or word format. OmniPage is also a good alternate of ABBYY's Reader (*.*) if this doesn't work
