What are some ideas for a high school level science research project?

I'm interested in doing a project involving chemistry (interested in anesthesia), but I have a difficult time trying to come up with ideas. I'm staying away from biology because since many people do that, it's harder to place in a competition. I accept challenging ideas as well, but any basis to construct my own idea upon will do.

1. Do something fun like the chemistry involved in cooking. Something chefs deal with everyday.
