Should I be contacting the rowing coaches of the colleges I am applying to?

I am applying to colleges next right now, and have done crew for a year, I know I would be more of a walk on so would I still need to contact the coaches?

1. I think it would only help you in the end if you made the effort to contact them. It wouldn't do any harm!
2. Most crew teams in college are club sports, so it's a good idea to see if they've got the kind of team you're looking for, but they'll have info around once you get to school even if you don't. Good luck and have fun!
3. If you contact the coach before hand your name is going to stick in the coaches head. If it comes down to eliminating people you are going to be the one who showed initiative by going the extra step and that shows desire and responsibility. I say do it because it cannot hurt.
