Suggestions on Volunteering to be a Mentor For kids? I have volunteered before, for Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospitals. I still love helping animals, but I also would like to have some experience helping kids. I am considering being a Wildlife Educator. This would be good for my resume. It can be a one on one thing, or group activities. Where are volunteers needed in the San Francisco Bay Area? regarding volunteering with kids. Please recommend any websites, or phone numbers if you know of any? Note: I am not good at sports, so Mentoring in that area, would be not a match for me.
How do I go about volunteering with kids here at Child Haven in Las Vegas, NV? College isn't until Spring of 09' for me so I want to leep motivated by doing some volunteer work. I am currently a re-covering alcoholic and I'm trying to maintain my job and make life better for me. The only thing I can think of is doing something productive and helpful to the community. Am I going to need a Sherrif's Card? What do I need in order to jump into this within the next month or so? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
What is a good name for a volunteer kids program? We live in a small community and are trying to put together a group of kids to volunteer. We will be helping at Senior Centers, doing community cleaning, etc. We would like a catchy name to put on shirts, signs, etc. We had ideas like "Kids for Change" or "Kids Making a Difference" but these names already belong to major groups. Any help would be greatly appreciated.....and it is for the kids :)
Is it fair for schools to assign "Environmental Volunteering" as mandatory? I read this article in the newspaper that a school, in I think Maryland, is making kids volunteer to help the environment as recycling help and planting new tress as well as going to the local fields to help planting. But this isn't an actual "volunteering" process. It is mandatory on that school. So my question is, do you think this is fair?
Volunteering with Kids- Chicagoland N/NW Suburbs ? Hi, With the holidays coming around, some of my friends and I would like to have our kids give back. All of the kids are about 6 years old and we would like to have them volunteer for a day doing something. Does anyone have any ideas for volunteer organizations that might allow younger children to help? (Packing boxes, etc)
Help! With volunteering with kids and teens? Okay, so I am going to be volunteering at this organization that is free, for kids and teens to have a place where they can be, after school, to keep them from getting into things like gangs, violence, drugs, and alcohol. THe kids there range from 6-18. I am going to be volunteering there this summer, and most of the volunteers work with the younger kids. Since this is summer, the kids don't have homework and academic stuff they need help with, so besides other programs the kids will participate in, they will also have a lot of free time (a game room where they play foosball, have board games, television with movies and video games, toys, etc. etc., or, they can go outside and play sports) and yeah I was wondering if anyone had any good tips for getting to know the kids at first? I know I can walk around and join in with some of the kids and their games and introduce myself and stuff, but what are some good ways I can use to get to know them and gain their appreciation or something? Some conversation starters, etc? Besides the usual "What's your favorite subject at school" and stuff. Thanks! Your help will be greatly appreciated!
Kids volunteering? I want to get my 3 little boys into some sort of volunteer work to get them to learn there are people that aren't as lucky. They are 4 years old, so obviously nothing with a huge amount of work. I don't mind spending some money, but I don't want to just hand money over, I want it to either be something the boys can put together, something they can pick out or something that they can actually do (like yesterday we made a delievered cookies to the homeless shelter). Thanks for your help! They have worked with the eldery A LOT! We went to Christmas carol (just the boys, myself, and my husband). We took them to a day where families can come in a play games and talk to eldery. They loved that too. I want something different!

Volunteering with kids in Boston? I'm trying to find somewhere I can take a bunch of 12 year olds to volunteer in the greater Boston area. Places I have volunteered at before like soup kitchens and the food bank require volunteers to be at least 16. Many other places are looking for long-term, adult volunteers. Any suggestions for where we can volunteer at? (They are doing food/clothing drives at school, and I would rather take them somewhere and have them be more involved than asking for cans (not that food/clothing drives aren't important!).)
JOBS And VOLUNTEERING For Kids!? Hi, my daughter who's 11 is interested in volunteering. Is this possible, since she is so young? Are there any websites that we can check out? Also, she wants to get a "job?" ANY IDEAS WOULD HELP!
I'm thinking of volunteering in a hospital...? My nephew was in the hospital this weekend and I realized that many babies and children were also sick. We're usually an absurdly healthy family, I've only been to the hospital 3 times in my life and those were for family pregancies. I never thought about the kids in hospitals until this weekend. I think I'd like to volunteer with kids or something like that. I used to do VISTA and set up monthly kids activities and working with kids was a lot of fun. I think I'l like to do something similar. I also felt sorry for some of the babies whohad no one to hold them, unlike my nephew who had at least 2 people sitting with him most of the time. I was in the NCU with my sister and sometimes a baby would cry and the nurses wouldn't come immediately. They're busy and can't come running every time a baby cries. There were volunteers to hold babies when they cried so I wonder if I should volunteer for that. Does anyone volunteer in hospitals who can tell me about it?
Would you volunteer your kids for this? The US Secretary of Health & Human Services signed a decree granting legal immunity to vaccine makers for their swine flu vaccines. (In other words, if you die your family can't sue.) Why on earth would they start testing possible vaccines on little kids? A quick Google search will turn it up. It's been reported on quite a few different news sites. They will start in Oklahoma City with children ages 3 to 8. They can't possibly know that a vaccine churned out that fast won't have lasting effects. Would you trust this to be safe?
Overseas summer volunteering opportunities for High School Student (preferably Asia)? Well, right now I'm looking for volunteer opportunities for a high school student to volunteer overseas (preferably in Asia). I was just wondering if anyone know of any good opportunities for like grassroots volunteering (helping teach local kids English, volunteering in local villages, etc.) since I'm not very interested in those big programs where grassroots volunteering in rural isn't their main focus. If anyone knew of any programs like this, it'd be great since right now, I'm looking for opportunities in China and Taiwan.
I think I want to volunteer (kids)? I am thinking of volunteering in a childrens' hospital or orphanage. But I don't know whether I am emotionally strong enough to handle it. I don't know if I could accept that I couldn't do all that much to help or save them other than to give my time, read to them, play with them etc. Has anyone done this? How did you go about it? Contact hospitals? Where would you recommend I volunteer? Any particular type of hospital? or an orphanage? for kids who have suffered abuse? Any advice is welcome Oh and I live in the UK
How to get involved in volunteering with disabled or ill kids? How would I get involved in spending time with or helping children with disabilities? austin charities for kids to volunteer? I am looking for an Austin Texas charity to intriduce my 3 year old son to the concept of charitable giving over the holiday time. Instead of a food drive or just giving money, I'd like to take him somewhere where we can bring items right to the people or kids - I want to make it more personal and "real." Any ideas?
Should we reinstate the draft and make it mandatory for everyone eligible and called by the draft board? The benefit would be that the rich kids get to go and fight just like the middle and lower class kids get to go and fight. In the present, the rich can alway buy their way out of it for their children, but the poor could not afford to do the same. By instituting this manner of filling the ranks of the military, some of the richest and most powerful would have to suffer right along with the rest of us. That would also end the hippocracy of a volunteer military. Regular troops for the most part don't volunteer, they are forced by circumstances to join the military. The houseshit of the right wing is that those kids volunteered for combat, and that they are adults and know what they are doing. Will it is not true. Most of the kids that join have no idea what they are getting into. All they have to go on is the propaganda of government and people who do not have to fight at this point in their lifes. We enlisted because we did not know enough to not enlist. That is not volunteering.
Art volunteer for Down Syndrome Kids? I'm just wondering how I would get started with being a volunteer to help kids with Down Syndrome to express themselves through art. I have my Associates in Graphic Design, but would like to just start out as a volunteer (or related) with doing something creative, like art, with kids who have Down Syndrome. Anyone have any ideas of how to start?
Where can kids join animal volunteering? This summer I want to volunteer helping animals for free. I like to help any animals but i prefer small ones, but big one like snakes or alligators is okay also. I want it to be no money cost. Usually parents have to come and stay with the kids but my parents don't have the time, so i need a place where it can be just me. I want a place in Altoona, PA, or 5-7 miles from Altoona. I want it to have a training program before i start. Please help me find a place. Not the humane Society. Thanks :-)
Art volunteer for kids with disabilities? I'm trying to find a place were I can volunteer to for kids with disabilities and do small art project or any volunteering that involves painting, drawing, etc to help an organization. I actually was an art student in high school and took art all 4 yrs and ended up creating a portfolio with all my art projects, I LOVE ART.... but since I started college it's been almost a year that I haven't done anything artist and I really miss art. I am a pre-med student so I don't get a lot of free time, but I do want to volunteer somewhere were I can express my artistic abilities along with helping others. I have tried sites like volunteerhouston, craigslist, volunteer match but can't seem to find anyplace to volunteer that is artistic. I live in Houston Texas in the southwest area, if anyone knows any organizations or any agencies that are planning on doing artistic projects or volunteering-- feel free to add suggestions. Thanks.
What are service ideas for about 70 students? My school requires the SGA to plan a day of service for the entire grade to participate in. It has to benefit an outside agency. I need assistance on finding a place to have 70 kids volunteer. 3 to 6 choices would be nice so the sophomore class can vote on it.

Why are parents so hesitant to volunteer in kids sports? Are your kids in sports, such as little league or soccer? If so, are you quick to step up and help out or are you one who says "I can't" or "I'm too busy."? What makes you hesitant to volunteer? I'm on the board of my sons' little league and I'm having a hard time getting people to help out, even though they said they'd volunteer. It's frustrating, I'm busy, too (Work, two kids in sports, on the Board, writing a novel), but I still find the time to help the league, if needed. Why don't others want to help?

Do you think it is fair to the kids illegal Catholics can volunteer with children without background checks? Los Angeles Diocesan Screenings for Abusers Give Slack to Undocumented In L.A. and O.C., illegal immigrant Catholics can volunteer with children without background checks because they lack the required ID. By Jennifer Delson, LA Times Staff Writer June 22, 2006 Not wanting to lose illegal immigrant volunteers, the Los Angeles and Orange Roman Catholic dioceses have quietly backed away from a pledge to root out pedophiles by running fingerprint background checks on anyone who works with children. The revamped policy in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles allows church volunteer candidates without government-issue identification to give instead a sworn affidavit stating that they have not been convicted of any crime. In Orange, potential volunteers without photo IDs can submit a sworn affidavit and two letters of reference attesting to their character. Church leaders said background checks of illegal immigrants are virtually impossible without government photo identification, and the church stood to lose a small army of volunteers in heavily Latino parishes unless the photo ID requirement was dropped. Those who don't have background checks are allowed to work with children, but only under supervision, church officials said. The policies, revamped last year and recently uncovered by The Times, outraged victim advocates who said the dioceses are putting concern for illegal immigrants before the protection of children. "It's scary. I didn't know they were doing this," said Rita Milla, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles-area Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests. "They are just trying to be too politically correct, even though it means putting the kids at risk. If someone can't prove who they are, they shouldn't be volunteering."http://www.snapnetwork.org/news/calif/screening_for_abusers.htm
