What would happen if international volunteering was to stop tomorrow? Transport is one of the major sources of "greenhouse gas" emissions. Travelling abroad usually involves travelling long distances and therefore requires the combustion of large quantities of fossil fuels. Those who travel abroad to contribute to projects they consider worthy and in need of help are, one might assume, people who are aware of the problems and issues facing the world today. If, due to climate change concerns, the international volunteer community was to stop travelling tomorrow, what in your opinion would be the consequences?
Share your international volunteering experiences here? I really would like to volunteer abroad, so that I can experience new culture, while doing something worthwhile and meeting new people. I lack funds, however, since I'm jobless in high school. I'd probably have to sell snacks and things to raise money. Have you ever volunteered abroad, or fundraised for yourself? Share your experiences! :-)
international volunteering? where should I start? I'm looking to do volunteer work internationally, Everywhere I have looked online has had fees over $1000 for a week or two, not including a plane ticket... Is there any like head place I can go to that could help place me somewhere?
International Volunteering Opportunities? I need some RELIABLE sites to visit that have international volunteering opportunities for students 17+, and that offer the ability to raise funds for the excursion. I would most like it if people would share their stories with the listed associations [in other words, I don't just want a list that I could pick up from Google but rather a list of places that have been useful to others :D ]. I would really enjoy helping others and am open minded towards different styles of life. Though personally I would like to contribute towards an agnostic organization, any good experiences with mythological based organizations are also welcomed. As for additional information, I am a seventeen-year-old liberal Nevadan boy and want to do my part for the world [and who doesn't want to get out of the country]. Thanks in advance for all of the help. :D
How do I find a reputable international volunteering organization? I want to do some international volunteering, but am not sure how to find a safe and reputable organization I can go with. Has anyone ever done this and care to share some insights? Also, some of the organizations I have been looking at are very expensive. I am fresh out of university and do not have enough money. Are there any international volunteering programs that are moderate in price? (e.g., 1000-2500?) I would ideally like to volunteer doing some health related work or community development. any other options than joining the peace corps?
what is the easiest international volunteer organization to join? i am a junior in college and i am completely frustrated with life. i know i want to help people. and i know i want to join an international volunteer organization, now! but they are all so hard to get accepted into. almost everyone ive looked at either cost an extreme amount of money or you must have a bachelors degree in something like business, agriculture, medicine, and so on. i have an associates and i am extremely willing to help in anyway possible. and i have nothing but time to give. can anyone help me out?
In Canada, is international volunteer work tax deductible like in the US? I'm looking at volunteering next year in Cambodia or Tanzania and the organization I'm currently reading about claims that all volunteer expenses (including airfare, accommodations, etc) are 100% tax deductible in the US. I've tried to find information online about Canada's volunteer tax deductions but I haven't been successful. Just wondering if anyone out there knows if/what any options for Canadians wanting to volunteer abroad are! Thanks.
volunteer laws for International students on a student permit in Canada? is there any laws against international students who are willing to work as a volunteer for the benefit of the country? and not for personal benefit or gain but, from the true heart of willingness in giving back to the community? i want to pursue my dream career as a doctor, and i really want to volunteer for experiences. And, NOT working. can someone who knows about law prove me if there's such a law against international volunteers on study permit? it has to be a proof, not your opinions. thank you.
Looking for international volunteer opportunities.? I've done alot of searching for international volunteer opportunities, but as a college student who is entering "off-season" (no publisized disasters recently) there's not much out there for me. Everyone wants a degree or requires years of a trade, and while I have neither I do have general talent and could be a great asset otherwise. I'm in excellent health and all, I just want to go somewhere and volunteer. That's it. Does anyone know of anything personally, or can you direct me to some organizations/groups that have what I'm looking for? Please don't say the Peace Corps or the Red Cross, they too have high standards. Thanks! :o) - Ryan
Best international volunteer program? My best friend and I are uni students. We get a 3 month break over the summer. Since finishing high school we've spoke about volunteering overseas somewhere - we're finally of appropriate age and have the time and money to do this. We live in Australia. I'm a computer student and she is a nursing student but we don't have our degrees yet so technically aren't qualified, thus we are expecting to pay for this experience. Can anyone recommend some good organizations to go through? Ta!
Are there any good international volunteer programs for an undergrad that cost less than 2K? I'm looking for some volunteer experience (it doesn't matter in what really) in other countries besides the US (South America, Africa, New Zealand, etc.). I'm an undergrad student who doesn't have much money. Most programs I've found cost a lot of money for a short of period of time. There has to be something out there that costs less than a couple thousand (not including airfare) and that lasts longer than a week. Any suggestions?

Are there any international volunteer programs? I am a 19 year-old college student who wants to stop going for now. What are some reliable and good international volunteer organisations suitable for late teens? Hi. I'm looking for a safe, reliable and good volunteer organisation/agency that sends teenagers (from over 18 - below 21) to other countries all over the world (Ecuador, Guatemala, Nepal etc) to do nature conservation projects/teaching programmes? Any suggestions or recommendations would be welcome. If you've participated on such volunteer stints, post your experience + some advice too. Thanks!
International volunteering, work, studying, or camps for a 3rd yr high schooler? I have spent days surfing the internet to find a good program that allows a 16-17 yr old study, work, or volunteer abroad for over this 2010 summer. I would prefer to do it in "Western Europe" (i.e. England, Denmark, France etc..) or Canada. I do not particularly wish to be afflicted with a religious group but i can be. And i truly don't want to work in third world countries. Does anybody have an good groups? or any suggestions as what to do? Money is not really a problem
Is participating in International Student Volunteers worth it? I went to a little meeting at my school about International Student Volunteers, and it sounds like a great program to be in, but is it safe? I have Type 1 diabetes, and am not sure if going would be a good idea or not. I would love to participate though. Any suggestions?
I am a 22 year old man with some previous experience looking for any needed international volunteer work Help? I am a college student who really doesn't have the drive towards my degree yet and would like to experience and give back more of myself to the people in dire need. I have heard of various establishments, but without a degree I wonder where to start. I am physically capable of any reasonable task, have a clean record and live a healthy lifestyle. Am available as soon or late as needed and am really just "fishing" for some feedback. Thank you for your time and enjoy your day.
Has anyone ever volunteered with International Volunteer HQ? I am planning to volunteer abroad through this program next March or April for a couple of months because it is very affordable and I was wondering if anyone has already done it and if they recommend the program .. any stories will be nice thanks! :)

International Volunteer work (short term) - non religion affiliated? Interested to know of any non-religious based volunteer opportunities for short term work in poor countries. For example, like the idea of Habitat building homes, but not interested in religious/proselytizing aspect of it. I do not belong to any religion, so if the work in some way involves promoting a religious/political view point, not my cup of tea. Also, am looking to provide physical labor, not much interested in meeting govt officials, NGO types, fund raising efforts, and so on. Thanks for suggestions.
International volunteer work? What are some the best known international volunteer organizations that I could partake in over the summer as a rising high school senior? It's preferable that the offered programs are of a relatively low cost, much like the Peace Corps, but only for a high school student.

Do you know any volunteer organization for international students in the USA? I am a international student in a college in Iowa. I have a summer break from June to August, and I want to join in a volunteer organization only during summer break in the USA. I am interested in international problems and supporting other international students. Does anyone know the volunteer program during next summer?

Suggestions of international volunteer programmes/ Share experience? Has anyone been on a volunteer programme in India or other parts of the world helping other people, or on similar jobs with minimum pay, e.g. teaching poor children in rural areas, etc.? If you were, I would love to hear your experience of that. I'm not sure where to start looking, so if anyone knows any good resources on possible options, I would appreciate your help! Thanks!

IT / Computing career path for charity or international development work? I love my job in in IT (tech support & projects, mostly manufacturing / finance sectors up to now). My partner is studying International Development, so may get posted overseas down the track. I have always wanted to get a VSO placement, one day, or find a career that helps people (rather than just increasing company profits). Can anyone suggest a IT career path, or specific IT skills which would help prepare me for work in developing countries, or the not-for-profit sector? I'm especially keen to hear from IT professionals who have worked for e.g. VSO, Australian Volunteers International, UNV, Peace Corps, Volunteer Abroad or similar.
