Volunteer Charity Work in North-east England? I'm looking for volunteer work I can do for charities in the North East of England. I'm in full-time education, but am willing to spend weekends and/or time after school doing volunteer work. There are a couple of problems though - I'm not 18 yet, only 17, I have a feeling that might be a limiting factor. Also, in autumn 2008 I'll be moving away to go to university, so it needs to be a position that either I can leave at that point, or continue from a different part of England. Does anybody have any ideas for charities or specific volunteer work I could do? Thank you!
Is it possible in "England" to get expensive specialist treatment free by volunteering to be a guinee pig? I am almost 6o years old and in desperate need of some extensive dental work. I am on a very low budget and cannot afford to pay even the NHS fees. Is it possible to maybe go to a teaching hospital and have such treatment at either very reduced fees or free if volunteering for students to practice on?

I know you can work in England and Australia now, but I really want to work in underserved parts of the world, please let me know if you know if its possible to work internationally as a PA.

I wondered if there were any paid volunteering programs that could work? I plan on visiting Leeds for a couple of months, but i don't feel i can obtain a work visa in time--especially since i don't have a job already waiting for me there. Working/volunteering/interning abroad for 6 months in the U.K? So, I will be graduating this December, meaning that it only took me 3.5 years to earn a Bachelor's Degree at my school. Since I plan on attending law school in August 2008, I will finish my schooling December of this year, and I will have until May/June to do whatever...(my school only has Commencement ceremonies in May, so I would have to go back and walk/get my diploma in May, even though I'll be done in December..) Anyways, I want to travel to England. I've been there several times before, and this time I want to either work there for 6 months, intern, or volunteer, for anywhere between 3-6months. It's hard to know how to begin this process. Any suggestions on organizations, etc? I am also a dual-citizen and hold passports for both the U.S. as well as the U.K so I don't think work Visa will be a huge issue. But I don't even know if you need Visa's for volunteering, or even if they have abroad intern programs.

Can I get funding for an English Teaching course in England? I am unemployed and recovering from illness and would like to do a English Teaching course so I can work/volunteer to teach English to the many immigrants in England. I have read an article stating that only ONE person was successful in recieving Government funding for this type of course, even though they do fund many other courses. This could give people a chance to teach English either in England or abroad if they want to support themselves while they visit their family. Is it possible to get funding to do a TEFL, TESOL or CELTA course?

How can we increase opportunities for disabled people to actively participate in public and community life? Disabled people represent 20 per cent of the population but have a particularly low representation in public appointments – currently an average of around three per cent across England, Scotland and Wales. Only six per cent of all volunteers are disabled people. The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) does not cover volunteering, and schemes such as Access to Work are not available for public or civic appointments. Real or perceived disincentives in the benefits system prevent significant numbers from contributing to society in ways other than paid employment. Central Government initiatives to promote ‘active citizenship’ have tended to characterise disabled people principally as beneficiaries, rather than untapped contributors.

Summer volunteer work abroad...? Hi! I'm 17 years old and live in the UK. Over the summer holidays, I made a group of friends at a summer camp and we all want to meet again next summer. However, we all know that our parents would not be willing to pay the exorbitant amounts again... We were therefore thinking of doing some kind of charity/volunteer work abroad (for around 2 weeks) where we could all meet up, but many websites seem to charge large amounts of money for accommodation, food etc. We ideally want to find somewhere where we can all meet up and only really have to pay for flights to get there. (The group of 8 is made up of 6 from Canada, 1 from New Zealand 1 from England (myself)) The charity work should also be worthwhile, otherwise it would be difficult to justify flying to some random country, when there is sufficient charity work available in our home countries! I would be grateful if any of you out there could possibly recommend a few websites that offer volunteer work for people from around the world and charge as little as possible for accommodation and food (and maybe even subsidize the cost of flights), if such websites exist. Thank you.
Can I travel as a counseling psychologist? I am an American. I love living in other countries, but I am only fluent in English. My question is, if I get a PhD or PsyD in counseling psychology, would I be able to find positions in other countries, such as England, Ireland, Singapore, and other English-speaking countries? I will have loans to pay off, so I will be looking for paid work rather than volunteer experiences. Thank you.

When can I get my work permit in Germany? I was in Germany until August as a volunteer. After I wanted to stay there as a normal worker. I have found a place where I can work. They asked for work permit, but I did not get it, because I am from hungary, and we have membership with EU later as Germany, Italy, England or Holland. I know, that maybe until 2011 I have to ask for work permit, because I have to wait for the time, when Germany let the hungarian people to work without. But maybe Germany let us before... But when? Has somebody information? 19 hours ago - 3 days left to answer. - 0 answers - Report It The reason why, because I am working in the social sector, and in Germany there are lot of worker who work as a social worker and social pedagogist. Ich war beim Arbeitsamt, und sie haben das gesagt, dass ich darf nicht in Deutschland arbeiten weil es gibt viel Sozialpadagogin und sozialarbeiter(in) in Deutschland. I was at the office which responsible for the work for foriners, and they said that I cannot stay to work in Germany 'coz there are a lof of social worker and social pedagogist in Germany. I worked in this school before one year as a volunteer, so I knew everything about the methods or how the day goes and about the children, and that is why I was better than a new german worker and that is why they wanted to take me not as a volunteer but a normal worker. But the german office do not care, they said that the school need a german worker anyway.

Volunteer work for youngsters? I'm fifteen and looking for volunteer work, but, so far, I've come up with nothing. I live in England, and everywhere I've found seems to require you to be at least sixteen. I'd love to do something with people (ever feel as though you're just not doing enough with your life? Sure, I'm nice to my friends and I work hard at school, and I think I'm a pretty good person, but... I could be better, you know? I could do more. I could give people a chance), but I have no quarrels working with animals either. Where could I go? Got any good links I could check out? Any help at all? Ta in advance.
Private England info...? Ok, so I live in the county that Lynndie England does...and in our town she was appointed the the recreation volunteer comittee.... Do you think this should've been done? I don't think so...I don't like how she is being rewarded by being put on this comittee when she did something that basically shamed this whole area. ""When (council members) saw how hard she worked for the festival, they didn't hesitate to put her on the board," said Hardy, who is also a board member. "If it wasn't for her, we wouldn't have been able to pull off (the Strawberry Festival). She was an absolute asset." She handled the advertising for it...and guess what, I forgot about it, so it's not like she put it out there much... Anyway, do you think it's right we put her on this comittee when she did such horrible acts?
Which countries are the easiest to immigrate to or at least easiest to get work visas for non-skilled workers? I am a non-skilled (but hard working) US citizen. My gf is a volunteer in an autism treatment program and she is British. UK and US seem nearly impossible - to fulfill the requirements we would both have to work on this for many many years...I quit my job just so that I could spend 6 months with her in England, but was then denied entry after arriving at Heathrow due to not having a job to return to...starting to think Mexico might be an option...
Private England...in the news again....? I agree Mr. Brown.... But she can have a job and stuff...but appointing her to a recreation comittee? I just think it's a little too soon for it....
